Update: 4:28 p.m. The manager of NAPA Auto Parts in Sterling said two rocks from a blasting incident at Loudoun Quarries this morning damaged the store's window and a car in the parking lot, among other damages caused by the blast.

U.S. Rep. Barbara Comstock recently announced that a Dominion High School junior, Alena Titova, won the 2015 10th Congressional District Congressional Art Competition. The ceremony took place May 4 at George Washington University's Virginia Science Technology Campus in Ashburn.

The Fairfax County Public School Board adopted a $2.6 billion budget for Fiscal Year 2016 on Thursday, which will allow for small pay increases for all employees. The raises - though very small at 0.62 percent - are still bigger than FCPS has been able to give in recent years.

It wasn't a meteor shower as one Sterling area resident thought when objects fell on cars and homes Thursday. Rather they were rocks from a nearby quarry where crews were doing scheduled blasts.

Falling rocks and debris from a Loudoun County quarry blast damaged nearby homes and cars and sent one person to the hospital Thursday morning. The debris came from a scheduled quarry blast, Loudoun County Fire and Rescue said.
